Why I Started Newport Oregon Fishing Charters
Creating memories to last a lifetime
The Oregon fishing charter that changed my life
For me, fishing is life and I have always loved fishing with my Dad. After 30 years of hard labor working in the construction industry, my Dad finally decided to hang up his tools and retire. As a retirement present, I decided to take him on the fishing trip of a lifetime to Oregon.
I found that within a three day period, we could fish for a variety of species in different locations around the state. I contacted a charter that I found online, only to find that he was all booked up. He recommended his buddy, Captain Don Koskela from Pastime Fishing Adventures. I booked the trip at the end of July. This would enable us to fish for Lingcod, Cabezon, Sea Bass, Salmon, Dungeness Crab and Sturgeon.
We hit it off with Don from the beginning. He was a great guy with good-ole christian values. Fishing with him was like fishing with a favorite uncle or old friend. The first morning we were all getting a little gray around the gills. My brother was hit hard with sea sickness, so while he was hurling over the side of the boat, we enjoyed teasing him and taking pictures with him leaning out of the boat. This made my Dad laugh so much he forgot about the sea sickness and felt much better. I got my mind off of it by picking Don’s brain.
As a long-time marketing professional, I was interested in learning about his business and what he was doing to get found online. The first thing people do when decide to go on a fishing charter is get on the internet. It’s simple, the charters with the best websites stay the busiest, even if they aren’t the best guides. I learned that he had a similar situation most charters have. He paid a website a developer an annual fee to maintain his website. His site was extremely outdated and was in no shape optimized for search or a good user experience. On top of that, his listings on Yelp, Foursquare, Trip Advisor and Google Business were either in bad shape or non-existent.
Realizing there was a HUGE need for digital marketing in the fishing-charter industry, I decided to launch a business to help my new friend. This is how Newport Oregon Fishing Charters was started. To help Captain Don and other high-quality guides connect with anglers looking to have the experience of a lifetime. For me, this is a dream come true. Pairing my passion for digital marketing with fishing is my idea of a perfect job.
We also plan on expanding to other geographic locations, so if you or someone you know runs a high-quality fishing charter, we would love to talk to them about helping them get found online.
