What is the Lincoln City Kite Festival?

The Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival is a bi-yearly event held in Lincoln City, the Central Oregon Coast. It attracts thousands of people, such as tourists, locals, amateur, and professional kite fliers! It usually takes place twice a year, during summer (June) and fall (October).

The two-day family-friendly festival includes kite flying demonstrations, as the name suggests. All attending kite fliers will color the sky thanks to their beautiful kites of differing shapes, sizes, and colors! You’ll even get to see some of the biggest and most colorful kites from around the world.

From enormous whales, stingrays, octopuses, and many more unique designs, you’ll get to see all those up in the air by the beach. Everyone gets to enjoy the sunny skies, white sand, the sound of the seas, and the fun vibe!

Many people head over here at this time with the entire family because of how beautiful everything looks. While COVID-19 has canceled this year’s Lincoln City Kite Festival, organizations are already preparing for 2022.

What You Can Expect from the Lincoln City Kite Festival

This 2022, the Summer and Fall Lincoln City Kite Festival will happen in the D River Recreation Site. Expect the dates to be late June and early October!

So, what’s there to expect during the festival?

Like mentioned, there are a lot of kite demonstrations from the pros and other kite fliers alike. There is also an array of different activities suitable for children and adults, such as kite-making workshops, a parade, and more! Plus, children can get passports and collect autographs from featured fliers, so they stand a chance to win prizes.

And let’s not forget the many food stalls that sell delicious grilled meats, like hotdogs, hamburgers, and refreshments! You’ve got everything you need to enjoy the weekend by the beach.

Many people describe it as pure magic that everyone must experience. If you want to get a gist of what the Lincoln City Kite Festival will be like, here is the previous event schedule:

All that said, the schedules are subject to change based on any uncontrollable circumstances, such as the weather. These times are approximate and may also change during next year’s festival.

As for parking, you can park in the Lincoln City Community Center or Lincoln City Outlets. There are shuttle services in both areas, which will run continuously from 10 AM to 4 PM throughout the weekend. You can even use public transportation, which is the Lincoln County Transit.

Here are some tips we recommend following when you’re attending the Lincoln City Kite Festival:

  • Bring a lot of water, so everyone stays hydrated! You can also enjoy food and refreshments, so bring some cash (or your own snacks, too).
  • Make sure that you keep an eye on your children! There are hundreds of people flocking to the festival, and your excited kids might get lost.
  • Please don’t go too near the kites or disturb the fliers as they perform, which can affect how their kites move.
  • Bring and wear sunscreen to avoid sunburns! Prepare your weekend as you would any beach trip, with lots of sunscreens, water, beach towels, extra clothes, and a good mood.

While the festival ends a bit early, you can still enjoy many activities along with Lincoln City and the beach afterward. Whether you want to go fishing, lay down by the beach to watch the sunset, or drive around the attractions or yummy restaurants, there’s always something to do in the area.
