Newport boast of some of the best bottom fishing on the West Coast. Bottom fish can be caught year round, but is restricted inside the 40-fathom regulatory line May-September. A few of the fish to be caught include: Lingcod, Cabezon and Sea Bass.

Bottom fishing has great success in the Newport area. Bottom fish can be caught steadily throughout the year and are mostly found along the reefs relatively close to shore. Bottom fish are great to target for inexperienced anglers because they are relatively easy to catch and don’t grow to huge sizes. Bottom fish regulations vary based on the species.
