1. Newport’s Historic Bayfront

There is nothing more iconic in Newport than the Historic Bayfront. That alone makes it a must-see for any visitors to the city. But beyond that, the Historic Bayfront can be a fun outing with lots of things to do and places to eat

2. Oregon Coast Aquarium

Oregon is a hotspot for animal species diversity, so it’s no surprise that its aquarium is full of interesting animals. The Oregon Coast Aquarium is located on the beautiful Yaquina Bay and is perfect for families and solo travelers alike. 

The Aquarium has a number of animal exhibits that take you from the land to the sky, to deep under the water. It’s pretty much guaranteed to give you an education on wildlife in Newport! 

They’re open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM in the winter and 10 AM to 6 PM in the summer months.

3. Yaquina Head Lighthouse

The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in all of Oregon. It stands formidable at an impressive 93 feet! The Yaquina Head is a headland that stands next to the Pacific Ocean and can be a great place to admire the ocean. 

You can also find the Yaquina Head Interpretive Center here, which offers educational literature on the area as well as a gift shop. It’s a great little area for relaxing and learning more about Newport.

4. Hatfield Marine Science Center

If you’re already in the area to see the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, you might as well arrange to see the Hatfield Marine Science Center as well! This impressive education center near the Yaquina Bay occupies 49 acres of land. 

Its visitor center focuses on educating people on animal species, the coastal environment, as well as the research they do at the center. For anyone serious about learning more about fish and other animals, it is an invaluable resource!

5. Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area

If being outdoors is your thing, you will love being in the Devils Punchbowl. It gets its name from the large natural occurring “bowl” in the headland. Right on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, you can submerge yourself in the beautiful landscape of the Oregon Coast. And if you like surfing, you’ll find many local surfers who enjoy the rolling water here. You might also be able to see some whales!

The area is open for daytime visits with limited parking for private cars.

6. Pacific Maritime and Heritage Center

The Pacific Maritime and Heritage Center on the Newport Historic Bayfront is a must-see for history buffs. Not only will it tell you everything you need to know about the area and its history, but it’s also housed in an adorable mint-green house. What used to be a local restaurant and nightclub is now one of the best educational resources in the city.

Because of the breadth of their exhibits, there is sure to be something interesting for everyone!

7. South Beach State Park

For those perfect sunny days, there is no place more picturesque than the South Beach State Park. With its beautiful biking trails and landscape, this beachside park is the best place to spend a day with your family or friends. If you’re looking for more activities, you can also go horseback riding here.

The South Beach State Park is open to everyone and even has some camping sites for overnight stays!
